You won’t need us to tell you that these are often hard-driven cars, regularly purchased by people with little mechanical knowledge, on a budget, who can scrimp on maintenance. Many are accident damaged, and we’ve found a number of vendors have been economical with the truth regarding previous knocks.

Our Lotus inspectors are deeply experienced on the marque so know exactly what to home in on - wear items, bodywork and electrical areas, and trim can be poor too.

Lotus Elise (2002), £16,000, under 6,000 miles, London

This vehicle displays evidence of body and paintwork repairs which have been carried out to a poor standard for any USED vehicle let alone one that has a low recorded mileage such as this.

Even with the vehicle dirty and inspected in low light conditions the paintwork defects are very easy to see. To rectfiy these problems will result in (more…)

Lotus inspection case history

Elise (1996), £8,500, London - despite a £5,000 engine rebuild, this car exhibited mutliple resprayed wings, scuffed wheels, worn pads, heavily chipped screen, a dropped n/s door and bent o/s rear tie bar. Plus a few other trim items pointing to less than careful stewardship. The client did not buy the car.
